Do you like dinosaurs? Extinct mammals? Ancient Africa? Exploring the universe?
Well if you do, The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in Manhattan is the right place for you.
On the 4th floor they have an amazing set of fossils. They have fossils from Triceratops to Tyrannosaurus. They also have many fossils of extinct mammals. Whatever angle you’re looking at them from, they look amazing. They also have a store just for the dinosaurs. It is little young, but the stuff is good if you have a younger sibling.
The 3rd floor of the AMNH is mostly about animals. The hall of New York City Birds was amazing. They had about 50 birds in the display case and facts about the birds underneath. They also had an exhibit on North American birds and mammals. There was a lot of stuff on reptiles and amphibians, too.
There was also a planetarium on the third floor. It is an outstanding 87-foot diameter circular room with amazing graphics. It talks our solar system, the Milky Way galaxy, and our whole universe all together. The only problem is that it sells out quickly, so I would get there early.
The second story was pretty cool. There was a lot about different countries. They had facts on Ancient Egypt to the architecture South America. There was a lot about African and Asian mammals. They had a huge two story tall room of African mammals, with fourteen elephants in the middle and 28 different mammals and their habitats surrounding them. They also have some cool stuff about different cultures.
The lower level didn’t have much, but the first floor was amazing. They had facts about Native Americans, the history of our planet, and much more. One of the most famous things they have in the AMNH is the blue whale. It is a 94-foot long model of a blue whale suspended from the ceiling. It weighs about 21,000 pounds! You can find it in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life.
They have all these amazing things plus an amazing gift shop and an awesome food court. I hope you see the place soon!
