A Sweet Treat for Winter

Yummm! There is one recipe that is always satisfactory for my family in winter: cinnamon rolls.

My grandma uses the Sweet Roll Dough and Cinnamon Roll recipe from the Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook. It was her first cookbook.

The recipe is fairly easy but is very time consuming. It took my grandma and I five hours to make them.

This recipe makes two dozen rolls.
The ingredients you will need for the Sweet Roll Dough are

1/2 cup of warm water (not hot-110 to 114 degrees)
2 packages of active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups of lukewarm milk
1/2 cup of sugar
2 teaspoons of salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup of soft shortening
half of 7 to 7 1/2 cups of sifted flour.

Mix 1/2 cup of warm water and the 2 packages of active dry yeast and let it dissolve.

Next, in a separate bowl, put 1 1/2 cup of lukewarm milk, 1/2 cup of sugar, 2 teaspoons of salt, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup of shortening and the half of 7 to 7 1/2 cups flour and mix it together.

After that, put it a warm oven (150 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, turn on for about a minute to get coolness out. If not it will kill the yeast) and let the dough rise for about an hour.

After the hour, take out the dough. It will look like a hot air balloon so what you will have do is knead it. That means you have to put flour on the counter, your hands, and the dough. Then push down the dough and flip it. Keep doing that for five minutes.

After you knead your dough, you have to make the cinnamon part of the rolls.

First, roll out your dough. Then spread two teaspoons of butter on it, and then sprinkle it with 1/2 cup of sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.

When you have finished that, you will have to roll up the dough with the sugar and cinnamon inside, cut it into 12 pieces and put it in a 13×9″ pan.

Put the cinnamon rolls in the oven and let them rise for about 1 and 1/2 hours.

Then take them out and preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Put the rolls back in and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

The final step is to eat them and they will be really good!!
