Beautiful music plays throughout the Tilles Center, as the orchestra performs their songs at the All County Music Festival. The band waits in a hallway leading to the stage, and the chorus practices a few last pieces in their assigned room, before they line up to go on stage. The conductor made sure that our instruments were in tune while we waited to play.

All County is a music festival for kids who are highly talented with the instrument that they play. You can also be recommended to join chorus, which is for kids with good voices. Each grade has different music, and a different day that they perform on. Playing in it, I must admit, is a lot of pressure. Right before you go out on stage you get really nervous that you will mess up. Luckily, if one person was to mess up no one would really notice it that much because of the people playing around you.

I found out I got selected for All County in about October. I play flute.

After that, I practiced almost every day. When I had lessons with my band teacher, we worked on each song, especially in spots I had trouble with.

At first I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to learn the songs in time, but I managed to.

The week before All County, we had rehearsal on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. On Wednesday and Thursday, rehearsal was for three and a half hours and on Saturday we were supposed to have rehearsal for four hours, however it got cut short due to a snowstorm. So yes, a lot of commitment was involved.

Practicing with the rest of the band really helped, though, and you got to meet a lot of new people. I got to know people by looking at their music folders to see what their names were and where they were from.

Overall, it was a really great experience and I hope that I get recommended again next year so I can do it again!!!

Congrats on being picked! I love to make up my own songs and sing them. It helps me let everything out in a way I love!

I think some people from our school went. Their names are Vincent Vacchiano and Dori Chau. They are both in my enrichment group. Some people were really proud of them.
