“The Summer of Bad Ideas,” by Kiera Stewart, is about a girl named Edie and her cousin Rae.   They meet each other because their grandmother, Petunia, died and Edie’s parents and Rae’s dad has to clean out her house.   Edie and Rae have to sleep in an old, untidy and dust covered room upstairs.

They find some framed photos and notice that one is a picture of Petunia with her first pet snake.  Edie wanted to get a closer look at the picture of her fearless grandma but a hook on the back of the frame swings open and a folded piece of paper falls out.  It said:   “Petunia’s Good Ideas For Summertime, 1962.”

Edie and Rae attempt the ideas all through the summer.  The first item was to catch a snake bare-handed and that didn’t work out because Edie has a phobia of snakes.  When they were looking for treasure they found ice cream instead. Rae thought it tasted like hoof.

They also meet a boy named Mitchell who becomes friends with Rae, Edie and Edie’s younger brother and sister (Beatrice and Henry), who are twins.  The twins kept attempting to find endangered birds.

They meet several new people and find out things they never knew before like what the “Hurricane” really is.  They also encounter many problems and one included the twins doing something dangerous and another included Edie and Rae getting into serious trouble.

Will Edie finally get over her phobia of snakes?  Did the twins find an endangered species?  Will Edie and Rae finish anything on the list?  Find out the answers in the book!

I would recommend this book for ages 10 and up.

Awesome! The book seems really interesting. I can’t wait to see if Edie will get over her phobia of snakes? Great job. 🙂

I am so curious to see if they complete the list but otherwise I don’t think this is a book that I will love because you said that this book involved snakes and I am not a big fan of snakes . Nice review but I don’t think this is the book for me.

This book sounds perfect for me !!!! I like adventures and I have a phobia of spiders which is similar to a phobia of snakes, right??? I might just read that book just because of your review!

The review was extremely interesting. You left me on a cliffhanger. I really want to know what is going to happen next you and explained this so well. Eddie’s fear of snakes is relatable because I’m not a big fan of snakes. I have to get this book to read myself. This was a great review Alyssa 🙂
