“Riders of the Realm: Across the Dark Water” by Jennifer Lynn Alvarez is a book about a young boy named Rahkki Stormrunner, and a wild pegasus mare named Echofrost who was part of a wild herd called Storm Herd. Rahkki is an orphan prince. His mother was killed by Lilliam Whitehall, who is the Queen of the Fifth Clan now. Rahkki hates Queen Lilliam because of what she had done, but doesn’t want her killed like his mother. Echofrost was formerly a slave to Nightwing, a cruel and dangerous pegasus who is having a fearsome battle with Star, his sworn enemy in Anok, Echofrost’s former home. Star is a young black stallion who worked for the greater good. He is trying to get rid of Nightwing. Echofrost and a number of other pegasus escape Anok and traveled across the Dark Water to find a place to settle. Unfourtunatley, two of the pegasus are captured when they reached the Fifth Clan territory. They were Shysong, a blue roan, and Echofrost who was trying to help Shysong escape because she promised everyone freedom. Rahkki is trying to help Echofrost, or now known as Sula in the Fifth Clan as much as he can. But, problems start to rise. Will Echofrost and Shysong be sold at the auction? Will Rahkki be able to save them in time to set them free? Read the book to find out the rest of the story!

I would give this book a 5 out of 5 stars. This was a long book so I would recommend this book to people who like to read chapter books and like to read books with mythical creatures. I would also recommend this book to people who like books such as the “Warriors” series by Erin Hunter. The age group I would advise this book to is 9-12 because it is a very long book and you would need to memorize the little dictionary at the beginning of the book to understand what they are saying in the story. I would also advise this book to both boys and girls.
